Historic Homes in the Movies - The Buckner Hill Plantation with Brad Chappell
Buckner Hill Plantation (www.carolinaplantation.com) is an 1855 house located on land originally inhabited by Native Americans and later granted by Kings George II and III in the 1700s to early American colonists. Some relics of the original
inhabitants, thought to be thousands of years old, still exist and are occasionally found nearby. The same family has owned much of surrounding property from the 1700s to the present. The current dwelling has survived numerous hurricanes, an earthquake that toppled chimneys from Charleston to Raleigh in 1888, a tornado that leveled the family cemetery, looting and destruction of portions of the property by Union troops during the Civil War, and the filming of a major motion picture, the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.
