Eco Spiritual Adventures with Tobias Lars

Kala speaks with Tobias Lars and his Eco Spiritual Adventures to Wolf Adventures, a Manatee Swim, a Hot Springs Healing Retreat, A Wild Horse Adventure & soon upcoming Ayahuasca Amazonian Shaman Adventures & a UFO Encounter Adventure.

More About Tobias Lars:
While attending undergraduate school Tobias Lars had an awakening experience where the energy centers of the body opened up and spontaneously reactivated ancient yogic energy practices. This happened without any work. The Yogic 'Asanas' - the postures came back to the conscious awareness and he felt other lifetimes of practicing yoga. As he did each posture they felt like a key unlocking energy grids in the body that had been previously locked and these energies were then released and flooded through the body. These powerful effects were undeniable to his young western scientific mind. That Started a 25 year journey of spiritual study. Tobias spent time in India with a master teacher, studied shamanic practices with Native American free beings, heart centered Tantra, ego confrontation, the path of divine romantic love and with the help of a mentor opened back up to the energies of the nature kingdom of Pan and the Devic Kingdom.

During this time Tobias Lars also received a Masters Degree in International Business and founded ventures in international business. A few years later another series of 'wake up calls' came through business 'failure', divorce and bankruptcy. He next spent a period of 5 years away from the day to day world going through another level of awakening of the soul. Much of what he believed and thought he 'knew' - especially ideas of what spirituality really was - and what was previously held as reality, was transformed-exploded-shifted. Wondorous Journey - Traveling the World by Following Your Heart with Dean Jacobs

After thirteen years of success in the business world, Dean Jacobs asked himself a couple of questions: How much does one need to be happy? What is my dream? The answer to the latter was easy: to take a journey around the world! For nearly two years Dean Jacobs traversed the globe on a low budget adventure to better understand and know the world we all share. This journey is now captured in his book: Wondrous Journey- The World is Waiting for You. Living on 10-15 dollars a day, Dean wandered from Australia and Southeast Asia to the Middle East and Africa as he explored 28 countries. He crossed the equator 4 times, ate exotic foods and encountered fascinating animals. But more importantly in a world that we are told to be afraid of, Dean found something different. The kindness of the ordinary people in the world was the rule, not the exception. Near the beginning of his trip 9-11 occurred. Instead of stopping, he continued out of a realization that more then ever he needed to learn about the world. This is a story of a man who would stop at nothing to follow his dream and the magic that happens when one follows their heart. His book captures the heart of the journey with his stories and wonderful color photos.

More About Dean Jacobs:
For nearly two years Dean Jacobs traversed across the globe on a low budget adventure to better understand the world we all share. Dean Jacobs was born in Wahoo Nebraska. After living on a farm, his family moved to Fremont Nebraska when he was five. Growing up in the Midwest gave him an appreciation for the simple things in life. He graduated from Wayne State College earning a degree in Biology, with minors in Earth Science and Art. After graduating he worked in the administration of Wayne State College as the Assistant to the President, before moving on to Purina Mills. Eventually this path led him to Pfizer Pharmaceuticals where he was employed in sales/marketing for 10 years. After a great deal of soul searching Dean left the security of corporate America, and decided to pursue other dreams. This was the beginning of a process that would lead to a traveling adventure that would span twenty-two and half months and cover twenty-eight countries. Taking photos became a natural expression of the journey for Dean as he documented and verified the common ground of our humanity. To Dean, photography is a discovery process where something extraordinary can be found within the confines of ordinary life. "I am far more interested in real things, real experiences and real people then sitting at home watching fantasies on a television screen. I take photos of what I am drawn to: it may be a small child, a landscape or some world treasure that has been photographed millions of times. Initially, I take the photograph first for myself, with the larger intention of capturing a moment in life, a moment that has touched me in some profound way. However, it is my hope that others will also be touched as well in some small way when viewing my photography. It brings me great pleasure to share what I see. A moment is gone forever except for that crazy attempt to capture it on a negative and keep it preserved like a genie in a bottle for all time. But as insane as it is, I love doing it, over and over. I look at my photos and instantly I am taken to that place, the smell of the air, the feel of the hard ground, the taste of strange foods, the smile of a friendly face. With all of our amazing cultures in life, I have concluded we are far more alike then different. The intention of my photos is to focus on what is similar between you and me, and honoring the differences through acceptance. Then our world expands, creating more possibilities and more love. I offer my photos and my story as a gift, to move life forward in a simple and pure way." More about Dean Jacobs at: www.travel4life.org

Wildlife vs Politics in Alaska

The remote, northeastern corner of Alaska is home to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which politicians call ANWR, a nineteen-million-acre wilderness that may contain as much as 16 billion barrels of crude oil. Conservationists and developers have fought bitterly over the land for the last half-century, an era in which petroleum has virtually come to define Alaska. Struggling to combat the big-money politics that threaten the region, the conservation efforts of one couple, Olaus and Mardy Murie, made them legendary. Jonathan Waterman's latest book, Where Mountains Are Nameless - Passion and Politics in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, blends historical narrative with vivid tales of his journeys into the Arctic Refuge wilderness, creating a tension between past and present, science and politics, reflection and investigation. Since 1983, he has taken eighteen trips into the far North, and spent over two hundred days in and around the embattled Arctic Refuge. While paddling or trekking cross-country, Waterman encounters howling wolves, British Petroleum workers, Inupiat hunters, and the oil-ravaged Prince William Sound.

More About Jon Waterman:
Jonathan Waterman started shooting photographs on his expeditions three decades ago, but also found his calling as a writer and author. He has starred in and written films for television, including “The Logan Challenge” (PBS, 1991), “Surviving Denali” (ESPN, 1994), and “Odyssey Among the Inuit” (OLN, 2000). He's mostly known for his time exploring the North, detailed in six of his nine books and in journals such as the Washington Post, Adventure, Hooked On the Outdoors, Outside, Backpacker, Climbing, and Rock and Ice. In June 2005, W.W. Norton released his Where Mountains Are Nameless; Passion and Politics in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. More info at: http://jonathanwaterman.com

Aloha Life with Alika

From the beautiful energy of Hawaii, Kala speaks with Alika about Aloha Life. Aloha translates from Hawaiian into English into many, many things -- all of them good. Anyone who has visited the islands of Hawai'i knows that the moment you arrive, the Spirt of Aloha fills your soul. To live an Aloha Life is to use the power of Aloha to elevate, empower, and ennoble yourself in your life and the lives of those around you. According to Alika, "To live an Aloha Life was a method that was TRUTH for my ancestors and was integral to their daily lives. This way of life has been passed down through the generations. When I was younger, I was on a path of a destruction -- lashing out at a world that I had perceived as being against me. My tutu (grandmother) began instructing me on how to live an Aloha Life and more importantly, how to use the key to prosperity, peace and harmony that is Aloha for the betterment of the lives of others." Enjoy this interview with Kala as she speaks about one her favorite places on Earth, Hawaii as she shares the beautiful Aloha spirit with Alika!

More About Alika:
Alika was born Alika Medeiros in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. The child of a Portuguese father and a native Hawai'ian mother, his father abandoned his family when he was a child and he was raised with the influence of his mother and his mother's family. When he was younger, Alika acted out and got into all the sorts of trouble a young man can. His actions were spurred by a resentment toward his father and all of the other hardships he had faced as a youngster. While a teen, Alika was in a horrible surfing accident that shattered his ankle and left him unable to walk. Faced with the prospect of never being able to walk again, he fell into a deep depression. His grandmother began practicing the ancient Hawai'ian Lomi (massage) on him while explaining to him the wonders of Huna, a traditional Hawai'ian spirituality. Within months, Alika had completely healed. It was during one of these sessions with his grandmother that Alika fell into a trance-like state and experienced a moment of total clarity. He knew at this moment that by creating what he calls an "Aloha Life" he could help others to release the "Kahuna" within. What began as a young man's idealism to change the world has turned into Alika's lifetime crusade. Through his "Aloha Life" workshops, healing touch seminars and his own Kilo Lani yoga techniques, he has helped people worldwide to transform the quality of their lives and the lives of those around them.

Refresh, Rejuvenate and Renew at the Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa

At its opening dinner, William Jennings Bryan declared that it had been “built for the ages.” In the decades since it has become one of the South’s most famous and venerable resorts. It’s famous for the elevators cleverly hidden in the chimneys of the stone fireplaces (put there to conceal the noise of the machinery), which continue to transport guests to their rooms today.During the summers of 1935 and ’36, author F. Scott Fitzgerald resided in our Room 441. He’s just one of the American luminaries to have stayed here, a list that includes Harry Houdini, Will Rogers, George Gershwin, Thomas Edison, Eleanor Roosevelt and Henry Ford. Not to mention eight presidents — from Woodrow Wilson to George Bush. From yesterday to today, The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa has remained a place dedicated to providing its guests with comfort — and genuine delight. Historic Homes in the Movies - The Buckner Hill Plantation with Brad Chappell
Buckner Hill Plantation Buckner Hill Plantation is an 1855 house located on land originally inhabited by Native Americans and later granted by Kings George II and III in the 1700s to early American colonists. Some relics of the original inhabitants, thought to be thousands of years old, still exist and are occasionally found nearby. The same family has owned much of surrounding property from the 1700s to the present. The current dwelling has survived numerous hurricanes, an earthquake that toppled chimneys from Charleston to Raleigh in 1888, a tornado that leveled the family cemetery, looting and destruction of portions of the property by Union troops during the Civil War, and the filming of a major motion picture, the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. The filming of the movie based on the best-selling novel by Rebecca Wells was one of the highlights of recent years. The work here by many of Hollywood’s legendary award-winning actors and actresses added their imprint upon the long and varied history of a land occupied by humans for thousands of years.
More about Brad Chappell:
Brad Chappell, BS, Mdiv, is co-owner of Buckner Hill Plantation, a National Register Property in Faison, North Carolina (www.carolinaplantation.com).
